SIMCOX WIN FOR SENIOR FOOTBALL TEAM, OCT 17TH

Congrats to the Senior Football team and their coaches, Mr. Colman O Driscoll and Mr. Maurice Moore on the first round victory in the Simcox Cup (County Championship for Second Level Schools). They defeated De La Salle Macroom in Ballineen on a scoreline of 3-12 to 1-11. They play Dingle next week in the first round of the Corn Ni Mhuiri (Munster Championship) next week.

TY Mental Health Seminar

Transition Year students attended a Mental Health Seminar in The Silver Springs, Cork today.  Speakers included Liam Doocey from YHS, Philip McMahon GAA inspirational speaker Ballymun and members of the Menta Health Service - Jigsaw team. There were also performances by teenagers involved in rap projects with Music Generation Cork City, The Kabin Studio, Youth Work Ireland Cork & "Mayfield Youth Initiative (Foróige)".
A great day was had by all. A big thank you to accompanying teachers Ms R. O Brien, Ms C. O’Sullivan and Ms D. Hennigan.

MONDAY OCT 15TH:

Congrats to the U17 Boys Soccer Team and their coaches Mr. John McCarthy and Sean Finn Spencer who beat Carrigaline Community School at home in the first round of the Munster Schools Cup.

Hard luck to the Junior Ladies Football team and their coaches Ms.Ella Ryan and Mr.Tony Harrington who were beaten by St.Mary’s Midleton in the first round of the Munster Championship.

TUESDAY OCTOBER 16TH:

Congrats to the U15 Boys Football Team and their coach Mr. Patrick McCarthy who continued their winning ways by beating St.John’s of Hospital, Limerick in the quarterfinal of the Munster Championship.

Congrats to the U16 Boys Basketball Team and their coach Ms.Marie O Mahony who beat Casletownbere Community School in their latest league match.

Congrats to the U19 Boys Basketball Team and their coach Ms.Maire Keating who beat Casletownbere Community School in their latest league match.

"Turn out the Lights"

“Turn Out the Lights”:
Today SCS showed their support for individuals with Irlen Syndrome by turning out the fluorescent lights at school for one minute at 10am. This was a national initiative whereby schools and work organisations across the country took part. 

Irlen Syndrome (also referred to at times as Meares-Irlen Syndrome, Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome and Visual Stress) is a problem with the brain’s ability to process visual information. This largely unknown and undiagnosed disorder affects approximately 15% of the general population, 50% of individuals with reading and learning difficulties, 30% of individuals with ADHD and autism, and a significant portion of individuals with brain injury, chronic headaches, and migraines. 

Kilfinnane Outdoor Pursuits Centre, Oct 6th-8th

Darrara Agricultural College "Open Day", October 8th.

The 5th and 6th Year Agricultural Science Students attended Darrara’s Open Day last Friday. Thanks to Mr. John Dullea, Ms.Eileen O Mahony and Mr. Cormac O Brien for accompanying them. All found it very interesting and informative.

Leaving Cert Parents/Students Information Evening, Oct 9th.

Many thanks to all the Parents and 6th Year Students who attended last evening’s excellent 6th Year Information Talk given by the Careers and SEN Departments. The information given was invaluable and the Powerpoint used can be downloaded by clicking on the “Learn More” button below. Topics such as the CAO system, Grants, Preparing for third level and Apprenticeship model routes were discussed. Many thanks to Ms. Fiona Ronan, Ms. Cliodhna O Sullivan and Ms. Colette Dullea.

Senior Ladies Rugby

Congratulations to the Senior Ladies Rugby Team and their coach, Mr. Killian Newman on their impressive display at the Munster Schools Rugby Blitz in C.I.T today. They beat Lorreto Fermoy and Presentation Convent, Bandon to progress to the next round of the competition. Many thanks to Ms. Suzanne Devine for accompanying the team.

2nd Year History Trip to Art Centre

Ms O’Brien’s second year history class had a very informative trip to the Art Centre on Monday Oct 8th. Through Art they learned about the Famine and it's devastating effects. One of the highlights of the exhibit was a table, engraved with the names of 600 people who were buried in a mass grave during this time and what Famine related illnesses they died of. All students enjoyed learning about our past in this way. 

Under 15 Boys Football

Congratulations to the U15 Boys Football team and their coach Mr. Patrick McCarthy who beat Kanturk today, Monday Oct 8th in the Munster Championship. The final score was 3-10 to 4-6 in a pulsating thriller. They have now qualified for the quarter finals. Thanks to Mr. Patrick McCarthy and Mr. Chris O’Brien for accompanying them.

3rd Year History Trip

On Monday, October 8th all third year students went to Bantry Cinema to watch the Famine movie "Black 47". Thanks to their history teachers, Mr.PJ Fitzgerald, Mr. Colman O’Driscoll and Mr. Pat Joe Whooley for accompanying them.

6th Year Art students visit The Famine Art Exhibition

On Friday, October 5th all 6th Year Art students visited the Famine Art Exhibition in the Uillinn Arts Centre. They were given a guided tour by the staff. Many thanks to their Art teachers, Ms. Hannah Phelan and Ms. Olivia Hoskins.
