First year class 1D visited the World Family Icon in St. Patrick's Cathedral, Skibbereen yesterday. Thanks to Ms. Orla O’Sullivan for organising and to Jacinta Crowley, chair of Skibbereen Parish Council for the invitation.
There will be a host of events this week to mark Engineers Week. Events include a Kinder Egg Breaking Competition, a Paper Plane competitions and a Treasure Hunt to name a few. Please see noticeboard at Reception for details.

Congrats to the Under 15 Boys Football Panel and their coaches, Mr. Mark Cahalane and Mr. James McCarthy on beating Hamilton High School on a scoreline of 4-15 to 13 points. It was a cracking league game from end to end with every player giving it all. Their performance did the school proud. They now go on to play Rochestown College.
Mr. Sugrue took his Second Year CSPE class to Dáil Eireann today to meet two of our local TD's, Mr. Michael Collins and Ms. Margaret Murphy O Mahony. They were shown around the Dáil and Seannad and were able to view the day's proceedings. This was an invaluable experience especially for their Junior Cert Exam. Thanks to both TD's for their time and thanks to Mr. John Sugrue, Ms. Anne O Farrell and Ms. Eilish Hurley for accompanying our students.

Congrats to our U15 and U14 Girls Basketball Teams and their coaches, Ms. Kathleen Martin and Ms. Marie O Mahony who recorded two wins over St.Vincents in the County League today. The second years were down by 5 points with 5 minutes to play and showed some strenght of character to come back and win by 2 points. Final score was 33 points to 31. The first year team also played a blinder and won on a scoreline of 39 points to 22. Well done to all. You have done us proud!
40 of our TY and 5th Year Music students are currently on tour in Germany and Austria. Yesterday they visited Dachau Concentration Camp and the Olympic Village in Munich. Today they visited the birth place of Amadeus Mozart in Salzburg and the famous Salt Mines. They also found time to build a snowman! We wish them a safe trip and thanks to Ms. Colette Brennan, Ms. Mags Breen and Ms. Mary Murnane for accompanying them.

The students learned about St. Valentine in Religion class and were given an opportunity to make their own cards afterwards. Recorded interviews for 6th year LCVP take place in the school on Monday 26/2/18 and on Thursday 1/3/18. The written LCVP Exam is on Wednesday 2/5/18.

Hard luck to our U15 Girls Basketball Team and their coaches, Ms. Kathleen Martin and Ms. Marie O Mahony who put up a great battle against St. Angela's in the league. Unfortunately, they lost on a scoreline of 35 points to 25. The U14 girls had no luck either.
These extra classes are intended to support students with their classwork and all are welcome to attend.
These lost and found items are available for collection form the Deputy Principal's office. Any unclaimed items will be donated to local charities.

On Saturday afternoon last, Jan 27th, nearly 100 young people aged between 15-30 from youth groups across Ireland gathered in Dublin to discuss the key issues affecting Irish youth today. The Young Voices consultation, organised by the National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI), brought together spokespeople on issues such as education, access to work, advancements in technology, LGBT rights, rural isolation, gender equality, mental health and disability rights to exchange ideas ahead of the EU Youth Conference in Sofia, Bulgaria. The School Community would like to commend Brigid O Sullivan, 5th Year and Saoirse O Connor, 3rd Year on their involvement with the Council.
Congratulations to Darren Seymour, Leaving Cert 2017 and his Business Teacher, Mr. Donal Murphy on their awards from the Banking and Payments Federation of Ireland and the Business Studies Teachers' Association of Ireland. Darren got the highest Business Studies result in Ireland in last year's Leaving Cert. The School Community are extremely proud of Darren and Mr. Murphy's achievements and we wish Darren the very best of luck with his studies.
