The project will involve a group of TY students working with a group of young people in Romania to achieve the main aim of changing negative perceptions of disability in developing countries. Participants will gain skills in a number of areas - including in working with people with disabilities, communication, leadership, video production and web design. The School has begun its Literacy and Numeracy Campaign for the 2017/18 academic year. A  reading balcony is being created  for students where they can come and go to read quietly. It also has a poetry corner and a "Read Wall" where students are asked to post up comments about their favourite books. Book Drops are being set up throughout the school where students are encouraged to  take a book and replace it with an other. Students are asked to donate their favourite used book to this Book Drop system. There is a Book Club every Thursday at lunchtime in F62. The school will begin its "Drop Everything and Read" Initiative on Monday, October 2nd at 11.50am. All staff and students will stop everything and read for 20 minutes. CIT Engineering, Science & Technology Roadshow

CIT Engineering, Science & Technology Roadshow at

Skibbereen Community School

MON 9TH OCT at 7.00pm

CIT's Engineering, Science & Technology Roadshow is coming to Skibbereen Community School on Monday 9th October at 7.00pm. The roadshow aims to provide students, guardians, teachers and the wider community with the information they require about engineering, science & technology courses, careers and research options available at CIT.  Parents, students and supporters all welcome to attend.

“Many students have the talent and aptitude to study engineering, science, technology and computing”, says Michael Loftus, Head of Faculty of Engineering & Science at CIT. Michael firmly believes that careers in these areas provide exciting opportunities for both female and male students.

Selecting the engineering, science, technology or computing courses that best fits their abilities can be a daunting exercise for students. In order to demystify the relevant areas and to provide guidance to students interested in studying at degree level, CIT has created a new initiative to help ensure that they, their supporters, teachers and guidance counsellors, can explore their options in a friendly environment where they can engage with current students, past graduates, and CIT lecturers.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to all our senior students, their parents, the wider Skibbereen population as well as all our neighbouring school communities, to come and join us on the evening of the 9th October to hear first-hand from the students and staff of CIT what it would be like to study and work in these exciting areas.
